Sorry you missed the picnic if you weren't there or Happy you were able to join us if you were. The photos we took along with an image of one who couldn't make it but showed up in last January's Good Housekeeping can be viewed if you Click HERE. You can figure out who was who if you can. Here's a list of who attended:
We Can't Wait for Fifty!
The Checkerboard has had a reputation for good food for a long time. In case your are unfamiliar with the place, a couple pictures may help. As you head out the Memorial Highway toward Dallas turn right onto Carverton Road at Trucksville. A couple miles down the road you will see the Checkerboard on the right.
The Checkerboard has become popular for picnics with its modern pavilion. You can see the side of the services building behind the restaurant on the picture above. There is lots of parking in the lower lot and a few steps brings you to the covered picnic area.
I'm not sure how many will bring young children (grandchildren?) but there's a nice carousel for them on the far side of the shed.
They also have the following activities although I'm not sure how many of us are up to the Volleyball and Basketball in the August heat.
The price of the picnic is twenty five dollars ($25) a person. This includes a small contribution to provide the seed money to prepare for next years activities.
Drop me a line at wvevans@prodigy.net to register your opinions and suggestions or just ask questions.
For reservations please send your $25 check by August 7 payable to:
